Build, Play, Package

Build

Level > Build (Ctrl+B) turns the project into game files in the project's build/ folder.

  • It checks the level first. Errors stop Build and Play; warnings don't.
  • It rebuilds navigation and lighting where the level changed.
  • The Problems panel lists what the checks found. Click one to go there; Check runs them again.

Play

Press Play (F5, the green button in the title bar). The editor saves, builds, and starts the game in the Game panel, at the Scene view's camera.

  • Click into the Game panel to play. The game runs in its own process, so a crash can't lose your work.
  • While it runs, the Scene view shows the player and moving NPCs, and the Quest and Graph tabs show live state.
  • Stop (Shift+F5, the red button) closes the game.

Play options

The gear button next to Stop sets how the next Play starts:

Option Effect
Ignore marked scripts Entities marked Ignore its scripts at Play load without scripts
Disable AI NPCs stand idle and notice nothing; their scripts still run
AI ignores the player NPCs neither see nor hear you, but fight back when hit
God mode No damage, infinite mana, all runes and max stats

Note

A new game in level 1 plays its intro first, wherever the camera is. Mark the intro's camera entity Ignore its scripts at Play to skip it.

Start level

Level > Start a new game here makes New Game start in the open level (extended target).

Run in game

File > Run in game (the gamepad button) builds the whole mod and starts the game from your game folder with it, in a profile of its own. Nothing is written into the game folder.

Package

File > Package mod builds every level and asset and packs them into one PAK:

<project>/package/speech_<mod>.pak

The mod's name is shown in Level > Mod.

Put that file into the game's folder (or the game's user data folder) to install the mod.

  • A classic project runs on stock Arx Libertatis.
  • If a classic project uses extended features, packaging asks first: Package anyway, Switch to extended, or Cancel.
  • Level > Mod sets the mod's version and the mods it requires.
